Community Outreach Internship

Position Summary 

Community Outreach Intern: Serving Indianapolis and the surrounding counties since 1905, will support community relations efforts within the Development Department. This role is primarily responsible for overseeing the Pet Adoption Wagon (PAW) and coordinating community engagement and adoption events, including those under the PetSmart Charities Adoption Program. The internship aims to facilitate 150 pet adoptions in PetSmart stores while promoting animal welfare and engagement. 

Weekend availability is required. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Event Management: 

  • Drive IndyHumane's Pet Adoption Wagon (PAW) vehicle to events. 

  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the vehicle, including reporting any maintenance needs. 

  • Restock supplies for the vehicle as necessary. 

  • Adoption Coordination: 

  • Complete adoptions at PAW events. 

  • Coordinate the selection and preparation of animals for events in collaboration with medical, behavior, customer service, and foster teams. 

  • Record adoption outcomes in the PetPoint database. 

  • Volunteer Coordination: 

  • Direct volunteers in animal pick-up, loading, adoption processes, and returns. 

  • Event Planning and Reporting: 

  • Manage and update the PAW event calendar. 

  • Work with the Marketing Manager to promote events on social media platforms. 

  • Create post-event recaps for staff, volunteers, and board members. 

  • Track and report donations and expenses related to events. 

  • Coordinate event logistics with hosts and volunteers. 

  • Community Representation: 

  • Represent IndyHumane at PAW events and other community outreach activities. 

  • General Support: 

  • Attend internal meetings as needed. 

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Outgoing and customer-focused demeanor. 

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work collaboratively as part of a team, and maintain confidentiality of donor information. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and email. 

  • Strong Written and oral skills 

  • Commitment to the mission of the Humane Society of Indianapolis. 

  • High energy, initiative, and flexibility. 

  • Weekend availability is required.
