Director of Strategic Partners and Philanthropy
Position Summary
The IndyHumane Director of Strategic Partners and Philanthropy provides work as a member of the Marketing and Development staff, working primarily with and reporting to the CEO to meet the organization's defined strategic, financial, fundraising, and resource development program. The DSPP serves as the primary fundraiser for the organization from our major donors and corporate partners to ensure an ongoing and robust fundraising stream. Along with the CEO, the DSPP serves as a public face of the organization to all stakeholders and constituents and, as such, must operate with the highest level of integrity, credibility, and professionalism at all times.
Essential Position Duties & Responsibilities

Planned Giving & Major Gifts
- Develop, coordinate, and manage Planned Giving and Major Gift programs, and plan/implement strategies for continuous growth and improvement.
- Identify prospects through IndyHumane prospect lists, organization leadership, and data analytics
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward portfolio of IndyHumane donors through face-to-face and virtual meetings, tours, phone calls, and other personalized communications
- Inform donors about planned gift offerings that will address their giving and financial goals while providing support to IndyHumane
- Promote IndyHumane’s planned giving program to local estate planning professionals
- Host seminars to IndyHumane donors on planned and major giving topics
- Prepare proposals and other information needed to help secure gifts
- Work with attorneys and financial advisors as needed
- Secure donor testimonials and for use in IndyHumane marketing materials
- Coordinate stewardship special events (donor tours, receptions) and use existing activities as appropriate
- Prepare regular board reports of giving activity and results against pre-determined performance metrics
- Help create and oversee communication/marketing strategies for both initiatives
- Seek out training or other opportunities on giving trends
- Assist with review and verification of planned gift recognition lists
- Enter all donor notes in IndyHumane donor database
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and engage corporate sponsors for the organization overall as well as for events and manage communications with those sponsors
- Identify corporate sponsors prospects by partnering with key stakeholders, conducting donor research, and data analytics
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of corporate donors through face-to-face and virtual meetings, tours, phone calls, and other personalized communications
- Inform stakeholders of various aspects of projects and meaningful giving opportunities
- Coordinate Corporate Sponsor staff/volunteers and assist with solicitations as needed
- Organize sponsorship cultivation and stewardship events
- Prepare regular reports on Corporate Sponsor fundraising progress, highlighting trends, identifying challenges, and proposing possible solutions
- Assist with review and verification of Sponsorship recognition lists
- Establishing, tracking, and monitoring appropriate metrics to assess effectiveness.
- Strategic thinking and ability to develop an effective long-term strategy and vision. Ability to inspire and engage others around a shared vision and strategy.
- Effecting planning skills, with the ability to successfully manage a project from start to finish within established timeframes and goals.
- Donor relationship-building and solicitation skills; able to develop new, retain existing, and deepen the engagement of donors/funders and volunteers. Able to solicit funding at all levels – especially high-level individual, corporate, and foundation gifts.
- Able to prioritize, organize tasks and time, and follow up. Able to juggle multiple requests and meet multiple deadlines.
- Able to negotiate with and influence others. Able to resolve conflicts.

- Able to read and interpret basic contracts
- Proficient in computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, e-mail, etc.
Corporate Development
Collaborate with the CEO and serve as the lead major donor and corporate fundraiser, ensuring effective development plans and strategies are in place, and annual goals are reached.
Positively influence organizational culture to ensure it is appropriate and effective to achieve its mission and motivate and retain quality staff.
Establish and promote positive communication among all team members of IndyHumane to increase collaborations and reduce inefficiencies.
Serve as a vital member of the leadership team by staying abreast of agency-wide issues and contributing to the development and achievement of the agency’s long-term vision and short-term operating plans.
Develop an effective relationship with the IndyHumane board, responding to information requests in a timely manner.
Represent IndyHumane professionally at all times, providing courteous service to both internal and external constituents and presenting a positive image of IndyHumane.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required from a four-year college or university with a preference for a master’s degree in a related field. Must have a proven ability to advance legacy giving programs, demonstrated ability to meet financial goals and have strong knowledge of major gifts and estate planning options and issues.
The person who fills this position must be a self-starter with the ability to work remotely with limited supervision and easily respond to the changing environment. Must have excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills. Needs to be capable of managing several detail-oriented projects simultaneously. Must have strong commitment to IndyHumane’s mission. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs. Experience with fundraising software, Virtuous a plus and travel within Central Indiana is required.
