Animal Care Technician

Summary of essential job functions
- Cleaning of canine and feline kennels and animal housing to strict sanitation standards every day
- Feeding, watering, bedding, and enriching dogs and cats
- Safely handling animals of varying sizes, energy levels, and behavior needs
- Working in all weather conditions while walking and moving animals
- Monitoring animal health/behavior and reporting concerns immediately
- Completing physically repetitive labor for much of your shift
- Assisting teammates to ensure all daily tasks are completed before leaving
- Following standardized procedures exactly as trained
- Pay attention to kennel signs regarding special care instructions
- Perform custodial duties where and when required
- Follow standardized processes in use of equipment and cleaning materials/chemicals
- Appropriate and humane animal handling
- Follow safety and hazard procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements
- Must be animal-savvy
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to read sufficiently to understand chemical warning labels and kennel cards
- Must have good attention to detail
- Must have great oral and written communication skills
- Must not be allergic to chemicals or animals
- Must be able to work at a pace that ensures task completion within work hours
- Must be able to tolerate a work environment that, at times, can be stressful
- Must tolerate a fast-paced, loud, physically demanding environment
- Must be able to work around animal waste, odors, noise, and biohazards
Abilities required
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions
Preferred
- 1+ year professional animal handling
Important Expectations
- This is active, hands-on labor for most of the day
- You will be held accountable to cleanliness, efficiency, and protocol standards
- All team members are expected to become proficient in all aspects of the role
