Volunteer Programs Assistant (Part Time)
The Volunteer Programs Assistant works closely with the Volunteer and Camp Programs Manager to provide administrative and training support for volunteer and youth programs. IndyHumane’s volunteer program engages more than 700 individuals each year, and this role plays a key role in ensuring those volunteers are effectively supported and deployed across the organization. The Volunteer Programs Assistant builds strong relationships with staff and departments to maximize volunteer impact and assists in the development and implementation of youth and volunteer programming.
Summary of essential job functions
- Respond to volunteer inquiries in a timely manner
- Support effective communication with volunteers and prospective volunteers via email, telephone, and social media.
- Assist with the creation of volunteer support materials
- Maintain database for tracking and scheduling Volunteers and Volunteer Opportunities
- Maintain public listings regarding Volunteer Opportunities
- Assist with coordination of training for Volunteers
- Assist with the onboarding process of volunteers, including hosting new volunteer orientations, shelter tours, and training.
- Assist with the coordination of Volunteer Appreciation Week
- Assist with the coordination of quarterly Volunteer Meetings
- Help spread awareness of IndyHumane programs, services, and mission within the organization and community
- Maintain Volunteer Center
- Assist with Youth Programs
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum of two years of project management or administrative experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer Skills: Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.
- Volunteer Management Database experience a plus
- Prior work experience with children/young teens preferred
- Experience in an educational setting preferred
- Energetic, patient, responsible, team player
- Must have the ability to create a positive, professional work environment while supporting the overall mission of IndyHumane
- Must enjoy interacting with people, especially youth
- Must be comfortable with a variety of communication methods, including social media
- Must be able to work with cats and dogs without restrictions Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Must work effectively under stress and adjust to changing conditions
Abilities required
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to walk, stand, and lift for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in an animal shelter environment with exposure to noise, odors, and animals
